161st Gravesend & Rochester Agricultural Association Ploughing Match
Ringshill Farm, Wouldham, Rochester, Kent, ME1 3TP on 24th September 2011
The Gravesand & Rochester Ploughing Match Event is a traditional heritage event with everything from Horse Gymkhana, Tug of War, Cookery & Crafts competitions, The Bolebroke Beagles puppies "run around" , kid's tractor play area, Gun dog display, "Ploughmans Arms Tent" for refreshments and of course horse, steam and tractor ploughing.
The T's - coffee and lovely home made cakes & flapjack went down a treat and a few return trips were needed throughout the day.
The main Tractor manufatures Ernest Doe Power, Haynes Agricultural (Kent), Burdens had their marquees and display trailers there with their latest monster tractors on display for all to see, aswell as getting involved with some of the ploughing.
This year there was a fantatic dispaly of old photos. These showed us yougseters how it used to be around the Kent area in earlier years. I found these very interesting and really enjoyed the display.
Below are some of the photos for you look at and remember the "Good Old days". Remeber these can been seen bigger in the slideshow at the bottom of this page.

I found this superb photo, the gentleman is obviously struggling, but want's to help out and do his bit for the war effort.
At the other end of the show area there were a few vintage vehicles and this 10hp Ford Siva built by R.V Bryant from Luton caught my eye.
As I made my way over to the Ploughing field, things were going full bore and the standard of the ploughing was very high.
Austin West on his Fordson N with trailed plough was having a good day and ploughing to his usual high standard. The guy on the Ford 400 was getting a bit of advise from Dad and was also ploughing very well.
South East FFA Area Representative Rodney Gibson judged the tractors and voted Trevor Jarvis from Strood with a superb looking Fordson Major EIA as the best Vintage tractor in show.
Well Done Trevor.
All that was left to do was to load up the tractors & ploughs and head off home after a very enjoyable day.
