FFA South East Area Representative Rodney Gibson & his Wife Wendy had their “After Xmas Tractor Road Run 2011” on 27th December at their home in Stockbury in Kent.
Many close friends and work colleges that have know Rod & Wendy for many years turned up, some on tractors & trailers and some came along just for the “Well Known” exellent events that they always organise.
Many hands were there helping getting the food, tractor shed and parking organised. Everyone always seems to get involved and help at Rod & Wendy’s events and this made it more like a “Big Family Get Together” with an added bonus of a tractor road run for the Boy’s.
11.30am and the tractors started to line up, Rod took the lead on his 1962 Fordson Narrow Super Dexta, Angela & Robin Brown on her MF 35. Angela was driving while Robin was hanging on the back much to our amusment, Chris Aust on his MF, Alan Croucher, Dave, Austin & Oliver West together with their trailer with very comfy looking seats, I heard a rumour that Dave had wired them up so that they were heated, aswell as Phil Callander with his Ford 5000 and his full up trailer, to name but a few.
The road run of about 8 miles was through some of Kents superb country lanes, some we didn’t even know existed, meandering our way through villages, with quite a few of the people coming out of their houses and waving us all along.
As we arrived at the village green in Stockbury, it was time for a quick drink in the local Harrow Pub with much amusment of the people in the pub and the locals.
John the landlord of the Harrow, thoroughly enjoyed himself with all the tractors out the front and welcomed us all back any time, tractors and all.
About a mile up the lane we were back at Rod & Wendy’s. Tractors were parked up and off we went into Rod’s tractor shed, where the ladies had been very busy.
Soup, Crusty bread, salad’s, hot jacket potatoes cooked in their traditional oven with fillings. A festive warm Mulled wine which was brewed by my wife Hazel went down a treat as this was just what we needed after the tractor run. The BBQ was started with the help of Dave Bonner who had travelled up from New Forest area.
For the next few hours everyone filled themselves and sat around the log burner in Rod's Tractor Shed chatting away, reliving old times and stories of years gone by. Everyone agreed that “Rod & Wendy sure know how to put on a lovely festive spread and make everyone feel really welcome.
Rod & Wendy would like to thank all the people who came along, helped set up and tidy up afterwards. Especially Valerie & Dave Saunders, Joyce & Brian for their food help, The West family and Alan Croucher for his superb home made pasties.
“Rod & Wendy’s After Xmas Tractor Road Run 2011” was fantastic and brought a nice end to a great festive season of 2011.
