South Hams Vintage Machinery Show - !3th & 14th August 2011
The South Hams Vintage Machinery Club invited Devon FFA to take part in their annual popular 2 day working rally at Sorley Cross, nr Kingsbridge on 13th & 14th August as this year they had decided to showcase Ford & Fordson tractors.
A fantastic display of over 80 Ford & Fordson tractors were assembled. The oldest vehicle was a delightful LHD 1917 model T car from which, arguably, Henry Ford started his venture into tractors to improve the quality of life for farmers as he was himself a farm boy. This acted as a great centrepiece for the display along with the new FFA tent complete with boards, banners & membership material and several new members were signed up over the weekend to join the FFA and we are delighted to welcome them on board.
One of the strong entrants of the show was Martin Hill with his lovely trio of a Ploughmaster 65, a rare 8730 Dual Power and a County 1474 Dual Power that won the best in show cup for a restored tractor.
Strong entries also came from Kevin Pidwell including his Countys, Mike Hall's Roadless 98 and his front mounted haysweep on an E27N, Chairman Matthew Shute & his associated families diverse collections and Jeff Williams' with his thousand series tractors.
There was a most interesting original narrow Ford 9N which had been used in France in the vineyards & imported into the UK and was seen ploughing in the adjoining field. A great exhibit of an E27N and sail reaper was most impressive.
FFA member & SHVMC Chairman Matthew Shute was delighted with the success of the whole weekend & hopes to donate the proceeds generously to 2 local charities.
