Sellindge Steam Special - May Bank Holiday 28th-30th May 2011

Ford & Fordson cooked up a storm at the 42nd Sellindge Steam Special over the May Bank Holiday.

Members enjoyed a spread of home made cakes, scones and sandwhiches sponsored by Ford & Fordson Association Kent Member John Vowell of JV Services Vintage Restorations who hosted the FFA stand.

The home made refreshments were down to Linda & Wendy, a superb Mother & Daughter team  who had apparently been baking for days before the show.

Tempted by the home baking and good company, four new members joined the FFA over the weekend including Oliver Goldsmith, Des Boughton and Mick Blunt who also contrbiuted towards the stand and whose efforts were very much appreciated. We would also like to welcome back a former Kent member James Chantler, who also re-joined at Sellindge.

Oliver Goldsmith was presented with the “Best Tractor Under 21” cup for his 1940 Fordson Standard N.

Having been found in a friends garage in 2009 Oliver with his father restored this Standrd N over a fourteen month period.  It was based in Essex all of it’s working life and was stored in the Ford Museam at Dagenham from 1980 to 2000’s. Oliver was also working his N during his weekend at the show.

"Well done" Oliver

A Master Restorer in the making

William Lofting age 22 with his 1958 Fordson Power Major just finished after a 7 year nut & bolt restoration. William was only 14 when he dragged it from the undergrowth.

Deserved winner of the "Best Tractor at Show Trophy" at Sellindge Steam Special. The Power Major was displayed with an album showing photo's and details of the whole restoration to date.

"Best Tractor at Show Trophy" being presented to William by the tractors previous owner at the Sellindge Steam Special. William was also hard at work in the working area at Sellindge.

All your hard work William paid off - "Well Done"

The Ford & Fordson Showcase included a 1959 Dexter owned by Bob Griggs, Andrew Gardeners Fordson Major, Derek Rickets E27N and a 1965 Ford 5000 owned by Les Birch the founder of Sellinge Steam Special.

"Like Father like Daughter", John & Wendy ready for the display ring. Massey fan Mick Blunt being converted to "Blue" and thoroughly enjoying himself. Lots of interest and smiles were created by the JV Services “before” and “after” restoration examples which also featured in the FFA Showcase.

Also enjoying the hospitality and Steam Special was Nick Bryne the Somerset FFA Representative.  It was great to meet Nick on Kent ground and share our enthusiam for the FFA.
